About Ring Cycles
Lorena’s version of Leesa Siegele’s pattern uses fussy cut stars as the centre of this mesmerising block design. The original pattern with sweet appliquéd flowers or a solid piece of fabric are also available options. This pattern is suitable for quilt makers who have had some prior patchwork experience. Skills you will learn: using acrylic templates and a rotary cutter, accurate 1/4” seam allowance, fussy cutting, y-seam construction, colour and value placement theory.
The design is heavily reliant on the contrast between the background and focus fabric in the 9-patches. Choose strongly coloured small prints that read as solid, solids or similar fabrics to make the small 9-patches. If you are using a pale background, steer away from pale colours as your focus fabric e.g. pale yellow and lime green. The centre of your block is and opportunity to use a single large scale print, a bright print for fussy cutting or a background with an appliquéd simple flower. The design is very versatile and would look great in 1930’s prints, bright contemporary fabrics or even as a traditional two colour quilt. If you have any queries regarding fabric selection please don’t hesitate to contact Lorena.
We are also taking expressions of interest for a regular monthly class with Lorena. Please contact us on 02)99974661 for further details.
