I just can’t believe that the year is more than half way over! What that means is that there are only TWO more Sue Cody classes in 2018. Luckily there are two spots left for her classes meeting on 18 August and 20 October. This is a great opportunity to be taught by an absolutely amazing quilt designer.
Sue Cody’s name is synonymous with applique excellence with her whimsical designs and colours. I had a chance to see two of her award winning quilts at the Sydney Craft and Quilt Show this year. She won second prize in the Combined Pieced and Applique Quilt category for her absolutely stunning “Nestle and Vine” quilt. I just soaked it all in when I saw it at the show. The birds, flowers, and vines were just so luscious….and the hexies… there were 3,980 ⅝” hexagons that made up the border! She notes in the show catalogue that the center (which I think is fabulous) was designed in response to the unique border.
She also won Judges’ Commendation for her “Story Book” quilt in the Coverlet category. It was so spectacular– her fabric selections and fussy cutting were simply amazing to admire with each of the 64 hexagon frames telling a story. She notes that the precious textiles sewn into the quilt were collected over many years. I can so relate to that. I have fabrics in my stash that I remember where and when I bought them and each time I touch them I can feel a smile glowing inside. So many of the textiles that come into our lives have stories and memories that live in them and to see them sewn into something beautiful is part of the magic of this craft.
